چکیده

The screening of several Chinese mangrove plants for insecticidal principles showed that ethanol extract of Ceriops tagal stems and twigs possessed significant feeding deterrent activity against the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Family: Rhizophoraceae). From the ethanol extract, three feeding deterrent diterpenoids were isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation. The compounds were identified as tagalsin A, B, and H on the basis of their phytochemical and spectral data. Tagalsin A, B, and H exhibited strong feeding deterrent activity against T. castaneum adults with EC₅₀ values of 375.3 ppm, 277.3 ppm, and 285.45 ppm, respectively.

Antifeedant Activities of Lignans from Stem Bark of Zanthoxylum armatum DC. against Tribolium castaneum.

The speciation of a methanolic extract of Zanthoxylum armatum stem bark has enabled the isolation and characterization of 11 known lignans. Among them, five compounds (6, 8-11) are reported in this plant for the first time. All of the chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR spectral analysis. Additionally, their antifeedant activities against Tribolium castaneum were evaluated s...

Spatial and Temporal Regeneration Dynamics in Ceriops tagal ( Perr.) C.B. Rob. (Rhizophoraceae) Mangrove Forests in Kenya

Mangrove forests consist of a mosaic of tree cohorts, each having a regeneration history that depends on episodic recruitment of seedlings based on the availability of a “regeneration niche”. The aim of this study was to assess seedling population structure in Ceriops tagal natural monospecific stands and one eight-year old reforested stand at Gazi Bay, Kenya, to determine performance in terms ...

Antifeedant, Growth Regulatory and Ovicidal Effect of Sambucus ebulus L. Extract on Tribolium confusum Duv.

Aqueous extract from leaves of Sambcus ebulus L. were tested for antifeedant, growth regulation and ovicidal effects against the red floor beetle Tribolium confusum Duv. under laboratory condition (29?1?C, RH 60?5% and 12L:12D). The results indicated a significant deterrence for feeding, and comparatively significant larval, pupal and adult weight decrease in treated vs. controlled insects. Sim...

Antifouling metabolites from the mangrove plant Ceriops tagal.

The new diterpene methoxy-ent-8(14)-pimarenely-15-one (1) and three known metabolites: ent-8(14)-pimarene-15R,16-diol (2), stigmasterol (3) and beta-sitosterol (4), were isolated from the roots of the mangrove plant Ceriops tagal. Their structures and relative stereochemistry were elucidated by means of extensive NMR, IR and MS analysis. Compounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 exhibited significant antifouling...
